Writer-Director
Temístocles López is a screenwriter, actor, stage and film director. He has had an eclectic and varied career, often shifting between the classical, the popular and avant-garde.
Temistocles was born in Caracas, Venezuela. He grew up in Spain and studied in France, Germany, Italy and England, where he learned to love the different cultures and master the diverse languages. He started as a Theater director with spectacular productions . He lived in New York and in Hollywood for several years, where he wrote and directed several features, most of which have been internationally distributed and invited to participate in Festivals around the world. He now finds himself more at home in the European milieu, particularly in France, where he lives and his most recent projects take place. One of his aspirations is to foster effective links between the American and French systems, melding a personal “auteur” sensibility to American storytelling techniques.
After graduating at the London Film School, Temistocles directed "Contemporanea" the first major documentary about the American Avant-Garde scene.
In the eighties he became know for his spectacular productions of "The Tempest", "Faust" and "The Knights of the Round Table".
In 1989 his screenplay "Dali", about the Surrealist painter, was made into a film. (Best Picture at the Biarritz Film Festival).
"Exquisite Corpses", (1990) a black comedy, got him the attention of the American press and became a cult film.
"Chain of Desire", a provocative chronicle of contemporary sexual mores, was the American entry in competition at the 1992 Montreal Film Festival and opened to excellent reviews.
In 1995 Lopez directed "Bird of Prey", earning further praise for the director.
In "HOME- The Horror Story" (2000), the writer-director used absurdist humor and surreal visuals to satirize conservative values.
"KATABASIS", a modern re-telling of the Minotaur myth, is still making the festival circle.
Temistocles is preparing “THE GOLDEN AGE” about the Surrealist artists in 1920’s Paris to be shot summer 2014.
